AS IS Buyers Guides and Forms

The FTC Used Car Rule requires a Buyers Guide displayed on used vehicles offered for sale, showing whether the vehicle comes with a warranty or is sold as is. The form's wording and layout are set by the rule. What you choose is the warranty version, how many copies you need, and how the guide attaches to the vehicle.

Warranty Version

Two versions cover most inventory. The AS-IS buyers guide discloses that the vehicle is sold without warranty and the dealer takes no responsibility for repairs after sale. The implied warranty buyers guide discloses implied warranty coverage. Order both if your lot carries a mix, since the version has to match the vehicle.

Number of Parts

Part 1 goes on the vehicle; the remaining parts are your file copies. 1-part buyers guides are display only. 2-part buyers guides give one file copy. 3-part AS-IS guides and the 3-part interior version give two, which suits dealerships that keep a copy in the deal jacket and another in a compliance file.

How It Attaches

Tape adhesive versions stick directly to the glass. Peel-n-Seal 2-part guides combine a paper file copy with a pressure-sensitive window sticker in one form, and the exterior buyers guide applies to the outside of the glass with permanent adhesive on all four sides.

If you would rather not adhere anything to the glass, use a reusable holder with a no-tape file copy guide. Options include the static cling holder, which needs no clips or hardware, the clip-on window form holder, the fold-over pouch, and the pouch kit with suction cups. Hanging buyers guides display inside the vehicle from the rearview mirror, with AS-IS and implied warranty versions.

Lines or No Lines

If your staff fill in the vehicle details by hand, choose a version with pre-printed writing lines. If your DMS prints directly onto the form, choose a no-lines version such as the 2-part AS-IS no lines or Peel-n-Seal no lines, where the open field lets printed output land without colliding with pre-printed rules.

Spanish

Spanish buyers guides are available where your customer base needs them, including the 2-part Spanish buyers guide. The FTC rule addresses Spanish-language disclosure where the sale is conducted in Spanish, so confirm the current requirement for your situation.

FAQ

Where does the Buyers Guide have to be displayed?

The FTC Used Car Rule requires the Buyers Guide to be displayed prominently and conspicuously on or in the vehicle when it is offered for sale. That allows several placements, which is why our range includes window-adhered forms, reusable window holders, and hanging guides that display from the rearview mirror. Check the current rule text for the requirements that apply to your dealership.

AS-IS or implied warranty, which do I order?

It depends on the vehicle, not on preference. Use the AS-IS version when the vehicle is sold without warranty and the buyer assumes responsibility for repairs. Use the implied warranty version when implied warranty coverage applies. Note that some states restrict AS-IS sales, so confirm what your state allows before standardizing on one version.

Can I add my dealership branding to the Buyers Guide?

The Buyers Guide is a prescribed federal form. Its wording, headings, and layout are set by the FTC Used Car Rule and should not be altered. Our forms provide the fields you complete, such as vehicle details and dealership contact information, in the places the rule allows. For dealership branding on the vehicle, use addendum stickers or car window stickers alongside the Buyers Guide.

What is the difference between lines and no lines?

Pre-printed writing lines help when staff complete the form by hand. No-lines versions leave the field open so a DMS can print directly onto the form without text landing across pre-printed rules. If your system prints buyers guides, order no lines; if your team writes them, order with lines.

How do I display a guide without sticking it to the glass?

Use a reusable holder with a no-tape file copy guide. The static cling holder attaches with static electricity and no hardware, the clip-on holder hooks over the top of the glass, and the pouch kit uses suction cups. Holders are reusable across the life of the lot, so only the paper form is consumed per vehicle.

Is the Buyers Guide the same as the AS-IS disclaimer form?

No. The Buyers Guide is the window-displayed disclosure required before sale. The AS-IS dealer warranty disclaimer is a signed form kept in the deal file recording that the customer accepted the vehicle without warranty. Most dealerships selling used inventory use both.
