Auto Dealer Service Department Supplies

Organised by where it sits in the repair order: the vehicle arrives, the work gets tracked, the interior gets protected, the customer gets reminded, and the file gets stored.

The Vehicle Arrives

Key control first. Self-Lock key tags at 4-1/2in x 3/4in have a tab that threads through the key ring and locks back on itself, so no separate metal ring is needed and the tag cannot slide off. The large 5in x 1-3/16in version gives more writing space.

For numbered tracking, the Consecu 3-in-1 system produces two matching folding tags plus a clear tab per sheet, also available consecutively numbered. See all service key tags and key control cabinets and key systems.

Heavy Stock Dispatch Numbers are the piece that ties it together, linking the vehicle, its key tag and the customer claim check through the whole process. When a car cannot be found on a busy Saturday, this is the system that failed. See all auto service dispatch tags.

Inspection and Write-Up

Multi-point inspection forms come in manufacturer-specific layouts such as the GM sheet, a 3-part edge-glued carbonless form at standard letter size. The Generic Vehicle Checkup Report is 3-part snap-out carbonless and suits franchise or independent shops without a required format.

Edge-glued or snap-out matters more than it sounds. Snap-out separates cleanly for distributing copies; edge-glued pads stay together at the desk. Choose by whether copies leave the form immediately.

Tracking Technician Time

Job time tickets track labour across individual repair operations. The JT-12-PSG carries 12 self-adhesive flag labels that peel off and apply to the corresponding operation lines on the repair order; the JT-10-PSG carries 10 on 3-part carbon interleaved stock.

Count the operations on a typical RO in your shop. If most jobs run past 10 lines, the 12-flag version saves starting a second ticket, and a technician's time is not the place to economise on paper.

Protecting the Interior

Cheaper than the valet complaint that follows a greasy seat. Slip-N-Grip heavy duty seat covers are USA-made disposable plastic, used in both OEM and aftermarket application. CAATS standard covers are recyclable and cost less per unit.

Floor protection splits by purpose. Custom printed felt carpet mats carry your logo and cover the front seats in sets of two, doing a marketing job as well as a protective one. Plastic coated waffle mats hold dirt and water and grip the carpet instead of sliding, which is what you want in wet months.

Tire maskers at 45in x 40in protect wheels from dust and overspray during paint work and short-term storage. See all plastic covers for car seats, wheels and gear shifts, custom paper and carpet floor mats and auto detailing supplies.

Oil Change and Reminder Stickers

Two decisions here, and one of them has a real cost attached.

Static cling or light adhesive? Static cling needs clean glass and comes away leaving nothing, which suits a windshield corner. Light adhesive holds on more surfaces and in heat, which suits a door frame or anywhere glass is not available. Both are available in cling and adhesive versions.

Roll or sheet? This is the one worth checking. Roll format suits a dispenser or printer feed. Sheet format costs considerably less per label and suits hand application at the write-up desk. If your advisors are peeling and writing by hand, the sheet static cling and sheet light adhesive versions do the same job for less.

For the 5-in-1 printer system, consumable labels come custom printed light adhesive, custom printed static cling, or blank white. The blank option is worth considering: the printer can be programmed to print your dealership name and phone directly, so you carry one generic stock instead of paying for custom printing on every label.

Filing and Retrieval

Colour coded filing supplies turn a drawer into something searchable at a glance. Number labels cover digits 0 to 9 sold individually, and year labels run 2009 to 2027, both in ringbook format.

FAQ

What are the essential service department supplies?

At minimum: key tags, dispatch tags, repair orders, inspection forms, seat covers and reminder stickers. Those six cover taking the vehicle in, documenting the work, protecting the interior and bringing the customer back.

Static cling or light adhesive reminder stickers?

Where it is going. Static cling needs clean glass and leaves no residue. Light adhesive holds on more surfaces and in heat. Most dealerships run cling on windshields and keep adhesive for anything without suitable glass.

Should we order roll or sheet format?

Roll if it feeds a printer or dispenser. Sheet if an advisor is peeling and writing by hand, because sheet format costs meaningfully less per label for the same sticker. Worth checking what you currently order against how you actually apply them.

Custom printed or blank 5-in-1 labels?

If your printer can be programmed with your dealership name and phone, blank white labels let you skip custom printing entirely and carry one stock. Choose custom printed where you want a logo or colour the printer cannot produce.

10-flag or 12-flag job time tickets?

Count the operations on a typical repair order. If jobs routinely exceed ten lines, the 12-flag version avoids starting a second ticket mid-job. If most work is short, the 10-flag is sufficient.

Manufacturer-specific or generic inspection forms?

If your franchise requires a particular layout, use the manufacturer version such as the GM sheet. Independents and shops without a mandated format can use the generic checkup report. Check with your factory representative before switching an existing process.
