Dealership workstations get used hard. A service write up desk runs all day in a noisy environment, a parts counter terminal is in constant use, and a finance office screen holds documents a customer reads over your shoulder. The hardware choice that matters is less about specification than about where the machine sits.

On monitors, the question most people get wrong is speakers. A service drive or parts counter does not need them and a monitor without them costs less; a finance office or training station does. Check the output on your existing terminals too, since the ViewSonic includes a VGA input that still matters on older DMS hardware. On cables, order lengths per position rather than one length for everything: a 10ft patch cable coiled behind a desk is the usual reason a network cabinet becomes unworkable.

Autosoft Certified PCs run from i5 to i7 13th generation with a 1 year limited depot warranty, and refurbished machines are available where budget is the constraint. Certification means the configuration has been validated against Autosoft DMS rather than assumed to cope. If you run a different DMS the same hardware is capable, but check that provider's requirements first. Refurbished suits a back office or spare station; a terminal running your DMS all day is usually cheaper over its life bought new.

The hardware choices that matter are less about specification than about where the machine sits.

Monitors

Three options, and the decision is size, speakers, and what your terminals can connect to.

The ViewSonic 20in (19.5in viewable) is Full HD with a SuperClear MVA panel, 3,000:1 contrast, and no speakers. It includes a VGA input, which matters if you are connecting older DMS terminals that still output VGA.

The Acer V206HQL 19.5in and Acer 22in (21.5in viewable) both include built-in speakers and use ComfyView glare reduction, which is worth having at a desk near a showroom window. The 22in gives noticeably more room for a DMS screen alongside a document.

Speakers are the question most people get wrong. A service drive or parts counter does not need them, and a monitor without speakers costs less. A finance office or training station does. See all monitors.

Network Cables

CAT5 unshielded patch cables in 1ft, 3ft, 5ft and 10ft, each pair individually twisted to reduce impedance and structural return loss.

Buy short. A 1ft cable from a desk-side switch to a workstation keeps a cabinet tidy; a 10ft cable coiled behind a desk is the most common cause of a network cabinet nobody can work in. Order lengths per position rather than buying one length for everything.

Workstations

Autosoft Certified PCs are configured for Autosoft DMS and come with a 1-year limited depot warranty. Options run from i5 up to i7 13th generation, including the i7 13th Gen with Office as a complete package, and refurbished machines are available where budget is the constraint.

Certification matters if you run Autosoft: it means the configuration has been validated against the system rather than assumed to work. If you run a different DMS, the same hardware is still capable, but check requirements with your provider first.

FAQ

Do we need monitors with speakers?

Usually not at a service or parts desk, where ambient noise makes them useless and they add cost. The ViewSonic 20in omits them for that reason. Choose the Acer models where audio is genuinely used, such as a training room or a finance office playing product videos.

Will these monitors connect to our existing terminals?

Check the output on the machine first. The ViewSonic includes a VGA input, which still matters on older DMS terminals. If you are replacing monitors across a mixed estate, tell us what the machines output and we will confirm which models fit without adapters.

What cable lengths should we order?

Measure each run rather than buying one length. 1ft for switch-to-patch-panel inside a cabinet, 3ft or 5ft for a desk to a nearby port, 10ft only where the distance genuinely requires it. Excess cable coiled behind equipment makes future work harder and achieves nothing.

What does Autosoft Certified actually mean?

The configuration has been validated to run Autosoft DMS, rather than being a general-purpose machine assumed to cope. Certified PCs carry a 1-year limited depot warranty. If you run a different DMS, check that provider's own requirements before ordering.

What warranty comes with this hardware?

Autosoft Certified PCs include a 1-year limited depot warranty, meaning the machine is sent in for service rather than repaired on site. Acer monitors carry the manufacturer's standard limited warranty; terms vary by model, so check the product page or ask us before ordering a large quantity.

Should we buy refurbished?

It is a reasonable choice for secondary stations: a back-office machine, a spare, or a terminal used occasionally. For a workstation running your DMS all day, new hardware with a full warranty usually costs less over its life than a cheaper machine replaced sooner. Ask us what refurbished stock is current, since it changes.
